Each time a major prize-giving event nears, one notices a demand to include additional classifications to acknowledge unsung work and satisfy the hearts of enthusiasts dedicated to specific genres.
A fellow writer made the case supporting a scary games classification. It would be amazing. Equally deserving are board games, which is someone's personal cause. But they will have to forgive me for pushing forward just as with other blinkered fanatics, there's a strong justification backing this proposal is the most urgent and significant. Here's the proposal: It's essential to create a classification for brain-teasing titles.
Organizing Gaming Categories
Categorizing art by genre defies precise measurement; it’s very subjective, and typically spark debates resulting in unclear classifications. This explains why cinema institutions steer clear of genre categories. Yet it remains a necessary evil within the realm of video games, which are so diverse they barely qualify a single creative category.
For comprehensive acknowledgment of achievement in video games to receive acknowledgment, and to ensure all game types to have a chance for representation, classification by type becomes crucial.
Current Gaming Award Categories
The major gaming awards presently include classifications covering Action-oriented games, Adventure-action titles, RPG experiences, Fighting, Simulation and strategy titles, and Sports/Racing games. Between them, these six categories actually cover a lot of ground, allowing placement for most games within them.
Not so for puzzle games. No appropriate category exists to put them. Think about these recent excellent titles, showing diverse approaches: the architectural riddles of one title, the pulse-pounding block-matching of another game, engaging interpersonal challenges of a third title. What category would fit them among existing types? Unfortunately, nowhere.
Recognition Challenges
Many instances occur of brilliant puzzle games launched regularly lacking appropriate categories in entertainment awards, except when they manage to fit award groups including Handheld titles, VR/AR Game, or the intensely contested independent game categories.
- One classic puzzle game got overlooked in any category that year
- A different innovative game received no nominations during that ceremony
- Popular arranging title was overlooked in 2021
- Limited numbers of logic titles barely qualified for small studio or handheld classifications
Value of Brain-Teasers
Frequently they represent small games, but the art behind logic titles is of massive significance. Famous handheld logic titles count as the most-played games worldwide continuing this trend for an extended period.
The legendary block-stacking game competes with popular creative games claiming status as highest-selling title ever; it also contends for top gaming experience. Logic titles represent cornerstones for gaming as medium, while interacting with almost every other genre.
The Solution and Justification
Logic titles wouldn't face such difficulty. It would be easy to populate a field of five interesting, varied, worthy titles each ceremony simply — perhaps, with difficulty, because you’d have to leave many worthy titles.
And to reiterate, these are games without proper classification at major gaming awards. Brain-teaser creators are working at the hard edge interactive creation, creating some of the purest expressions of the video game form. Similar to movie stunt professionals, they warrant appreciation. Don't make them wait decades.
